Gerald Lee "Jerry" Rutherford

SPRINGFIELD - Gerald Lee "Jerry" Rutherford, 69, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center.

Who on earth is Jerry Rutherford – He may not make headlines upon his passing, but he was an admired man of intelligence, character, and personality.

Born May 18, 1943, to Henry and Lillian Rutherford (deceased) in Jacksonville, Illinois. Jerry attended Southern View Grade School, Thomas Jefferson Jr. High and was a 1961 graduate of Springfield High. A graduate of DeVry Technical School as an Electronics Technician and a US Army Vietnam War Veteran serving as an Avionics Technician repairing helicopters. Jerry was a technician for 23 years at WICS Channel 20 TV Station and an Electronics Technician for 17 years for the US Postal Service until his retirement in 2007. Jerry was also a Union Member of good standing of the APWU. Jerry was a member of Rolling Prairie American Baptist Church.

Jerry was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew. Jerry will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Jerry is survived by his Aunt Ruby Avril of California; companion, Carolyn McCormick-White of Springfield; best friends, Charlie and Brenda Kalbfleisch of Glenarm; and numerous cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen St., with Rev. Dr. Mark Estrop officiating; burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service Tuesday at the funeral home.
