Obituary
George W. Duewer, Sr., 69, of Springfield, died at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at St. John's Hospital.

George was born December 10, 1943 in Springfield, the son of Walter Matthew and Wilda Lenora Cahill Duewer. He married Myrna Sharron Cross on November 3, 1962 in Springfield.

George was a graduate of Springfield High School and attended Southern Illinois University. He worked for the State of Illinois Department of Revenue for over 32 years as a LAN Administrator. George was a member of the River King Newfoundland Club, Mastiff Club of America, Newfoundland Club of America, Midwest Mastiffs, Sangamon Valley Woodcarvers, Clayville Folk Arts Guild, and was a former Boy Scout Leader and Indian Guide Leader. He enjoyed woodcarving, bird watching, hunting, fishing, and he loved dogs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Erich Duewer; one sister, Kathy Blasingame; and his special aunt, Margaret Felter.

He is survived by his wife, Sharron Duewer of Springfield; three sons, Michael Duewer, George Duewer, Jr. (companion, Tracy Wells), and Geoff (wife, Tressa) Duewer, all of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Amber Lynn Duewer, Amanda Kristine Duewer, Thayne Duewer, Mitchell Wells, Abigail Marie-Lyn Duewer, Haliegh Sue Duewer, and Keane Walter Duewer; one great-grandchild, Amarah Monique Johnson-Harmon; and his faithful furry companion, Tadpole.

Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony: 12 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. William Burton officiating.

Private family burial will be held.
