SPRINGFIELD - George Chase Souther, 66, of Springfield passed away Monday, May 3, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 25, 1943 in Corvallis, OR, the son of Howard Chase and Dell Siscene Colby Souther.

George was a 1961 graduate of Springfield High School and a 1973 graduate of Northern Illinois University. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve after 30 years of service and from the state of Illinois after 20 years. He was a member of the Springfield Ski Club, B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 158, served as a docent at the Elijah Iles House, and was an avid golfer.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Souther of East Point, GA; his son, Joel Souther of Springfield; companion, Marlene Maholland of Springfield; sister, Tameysin Adelhardt (husband, Terry) of Troy; brothers, Timothy Souther (wife, Arlene) of Springfield, Latham Souther (wife, Ruth) of Auburn and Thomas Souther (wife, Kelly) of Parker, CO; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel from 9:00 a.m. until the time of memorial services there at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul Rose officiating. Interment will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery.

George was a valued member of the SHS Class of 1961's Reunion Committee for many years.  He will be truly missed by his classmates and will be remembered for his many contributions as a member of the Reunion Committee.
